AMAZING NEWS:а Mt. Scott has graciously agreed to make their gym available for badminton on FRIDAY nights 6:30pm to 9:00pmа.аа Friday badminton will begin June 20th.аа
Beaumont reopens after Summer break!а
Welcome to Portland Oregon BADMINTON!!!ааа
аWe play at
HereТs how it works and some things that you need to KNOW:
- NEW PLAYERS:аа If you are new, you are welcome to use a club racquet and used shuttles at no charge for your first couple of drop-in sessions.
- RACQUETS AND SHUTTLES:а аIf you decide that you like badminton and want to play again and again (and we hope you do),а we ask that you please take steps to purchase your own racquet and supply of shuttles.аа The feather shuttles are real feathers and they do cost some money - about $16 per dozen for good quality.аCommon practice among players is to take turns providing a new shuttle to play with as needed.аDonТt be a player that never has any shuttles.
- BADMINTON SUPPLIES:аа Shuttles and racquets can be purchased on-site from Vijay.аJust ask around for him at the drop-in session and he can help you.аThere are some stores in town (JOES and Big 5) and other players that may have badminton supplies for sale as well.аYou can also buy badminton supplies online.
- SHOES:а Please check your shoes to sure they wonТt leave markings on the gym floor.а If they are, you will need take them off and get shoes that donТt leave marks.аа
- COURT ACCESS:ааа We ask that when there are players waiting, that you follow these guidelines to get on the court:
- Pick a court you want to play on.а Usually the center court is for single only play (1 vs 1) and the end courts are for doubles (2 vs 2).
- Look for either the sign-up sheet or dry erase board for the court.
- Enter your name and the name(s) of who you will be playing with.
VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT SIGNа UP ON MULTIPLE COURTS AT THE SAME TIME.
- Wait near your court and be ready to walk on and start your game as soon as the one being played on it ends.
- Take no more than 2 minutes to warm up and then begin your game.
- If you and your players do not wish to play a game, then you may use the court for drill or practice for 10 minutes and then rotate off.а A typical game usually takes 10-12 minutes to play.
Note: If you came alone and/or do not know other players to play with, ask around for Wes or Vijay and we will set you up with players and get you going.
Thanks for coming and we hope you come back.
